How Ayurveda diagnosis works
Methods of clinical examination are described elaborately in various texts of Ayurveda
Most commonly used Ayurvedic Concept of making clinical diagnosis is called Rogi-Rog-Pariksha.
- Rogi means Patient.
- Rog means Disease.
- Pariksha means method of examination
Clinical Examination of the Patient:
- Darshan (Observation): This involves general evaluation of the patient, by watching and observing the various aspects, including, body movement, posture, gait, skin colour, eye contact and colour, facial gestures, hair, nails etc and basic body physique. These observations, help the Ayurvedic doctor form the basic component of evaluation of patient’s prakriti and vikriti, meaning normal body tendencyand imbalance respectively.
- Sparshan (Touch): The Ayurvedic practitioner then employs touch, including special focus on the patient’s pulse, tongue, eye etc. He/she may assess the body part for its heat or swelling etc too.
- Prashna (Questions): The Ayurvedic physician, asks various questions about complaints and symptoms, as well as the duration of discomfort and disease progression. The practitioner also inquires about mental and psychological conditions. This will also involve asking questions around your past history, personal history including work, job, hobbies, exercise, menstrual history for females, family history, recent travel etc.
Stage Two of Ayurveda consultation:
Based on the clinical examination, Ayurvedic life style, diet modifications, medicine and treatment plan is designed.
Ayurvedic Lifestyle Modification Plan: Lifestyle suggestions will be based on the Ayurveda diagnosis. That could include, discussing ayurvedic way of living, for instance, time to wake up, time to eat, time to sleep, daily self-massage technique etc.
Yoga/exercise/meditation Plan: This may include disease specific yoga suggestions based on disease or imbalanced dosha.
Ayurvedic Medicine Plan: Ayurvedic medicinal products at AyurInsight are certified organic and are free from heavy metals.
Ayurvedic Therapies including Panchakarma Plan: After careful formulation of your treatment plan, Vaidya may recommend Ayurvedic therapies that will augment your recovery. That might be Shirodhara, abhyanga, Kati-basti etc. One may require a Panchakarma detox program, that helps to eliminate the Ama or so called toxic by-products from the body in a natural way.
So in nutshell, Ayurveda lifestyle consultation involves establishing the detailed treatment plan that is based on the individual clinical assessment of the patient. After finishing the consultation, the person walks out feeling well informed and ready to adapt Ayurveda into his/her new version of life.
